How We Grow

Regenerative Agricultural Practices

Our fields are part of a conservation effort that involves converting land that had been farmed conventionally in the past into organically farmed land. We practice regenerative agriculture, which involves cover cropping our land and rotating our crops to invest in the health of our soil. We only plant about half of our land with edible crops every year, and the rest is cover cropped to improve fertility and lower the populations of insects that damage our crops.

Certified Naturally Grown

We grow food that is clean and free of chemicals. We recently completed the process to become a Certified Naturally Grown farm.  Certified Naturally Grown farms are much like certified organic farms in that they are required to grow food without synthetic chemicals or GMOs.  However, CNG certification operates through a farmer to farmer peer review system rather than a top down inspection system.  For a small farm like us, CNG allows to continue learning each season the best practices for growing food organically and simultaneously doing it in a way that regenerates our soil and preserves the environment.

Working Together

Finding the right people to help us grow clean food is one of the biggest challenges we face as a small farm.  We want to invest in the well-being of our farm workers, and create an environment where everyone feels welcome. We want to support and teach anyone who wants to pursue farming or homesteading as a career. We believe in paying a living wage to all of our employees.  We have a special interest in training people who speak Spanish as their first language and providing them a supportive and compassionate work environment. We are grateful to anyone who wants to take on the physical toil of farming with us.  We seek to create a supportive environment for all, regardless of your immigration status, race, or sexual orientation.

Food Access

We believe in food access and eliminating waste. We started our farm with a desire to make fresh local produce more accessible to people who live in Beacon and Newburgh. We use our CSA delivery locations as places to make donations to food pantries, simultaneously eliminating food waste caused by donating unclaimed CSA shares.  We also offer a no questions asked sliding scale pricing so that our CSA is accessible to anyone regardless of their financial situation.
